I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I don't see an answer anywhere on the site. In the rankings, when a time is posted in italics, just what exactly does that mean?

It means there's a comment that the player decided to associate with that time.  You can either click on it to see the comment, or (new to 3.5) you can just hover over that cell and text with that comment will pop up.
